Over the last 24 hours, the cryptocurrency market has experienced significant fluctuations that have strongly impacted major currencies such as Ethereum and Bitcoin, as well as various altcoins. These movements led to a total reduction in market capitalization, which reached around $1.23 trillion. The upheaval likely caught many small traders unprepared for the abrupt changes, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the digital asset market.
Blockchain data analysis shows that during the period of turbulence, large investors, known as crypto whales, took the opportunity to sell significant amounts of their assets. Institutional investors like Cumberland and the legacy of FTX/Alameda are among those who have made large sales of Ethereum, with the total volume of assets sold by these whales reaching 31,683 ETH, valued at approximately $106 million.
These strategic sales further increased market pressure and intensified its decline. The price of Ethereum dropped by 13%, with a brief fall from $3,500 to under $3,000. Similarly, Bitcoin also underwent a significant drop, reaching its lowest point at $61,850. Although its price has slightly recovered to around $64,500, volatility remains, and Bitcoin’s market capitalization has dropped to about $1.3 trillion.
Observers’ reactions in the sector were divided. Computer scientist Edward Snowden commented on the relative stability of Bitcoin’s price over the last week, questioning the widespread concerns in the crypto community. His observation emphasizes the nuances in market sentiments and the diverse viewpoints that exist within the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
