In the midst of Bitcoin’s ever-expanding network and the significance of mining to its operations, cryptocurrency mining operations are becoming increasingly diverse and innovative. In this context, Genesis Digital Assets Limited (GDA), one of the largest Bitcoin mining companies globally, recently announced a remarkable agreement with YPF Luz, a subsidiary of Argentina’s leading electric company, YPF.

According to the agreement, a new Bitcoin mining facility will be established in Argentina, utilizing natural gas. The partnership between GDA and YPF Luz focuses on optimizing the use of waste gas, which would otherwise be released into the atmosphere due to physical or economic reasons.

The facility will be located at the Bajo del Toro thermoelectric plant in Rincón de Los Sauces, Neuquén province, Argentina, where 1,200 Bitcoin mining machines will be installed. This marks GDA’s first mining operation in Latin America, with a total capacity of 7 MW, including a 1 MW reserve capacity.

Abdumalik Mirakhmedov, CEO of GDA, highlighted the favorable political climate in Argentina for cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin, as well as the high level of acceptance of cryptocurrencies in the country as a hedge against inflation. This initiative not only addresses environmental concerns through efficient use of natural resources but also demonstrates the potential for value generation through Bitcoin mining.

Expanding GDA’s operations in Argentina signifies significant changes in Bitcoin mining within Latin America. Countries like Paraguay, Venezuela, and now Argentina are emerging as potential centers for the industry.
